It Took 8 Years To Get Our $100,000 Sync

I hate to break it to you… But there are no shortcuts in sync.

If you want to make it, you have to have great music, you have to have access, and most importantly, you’ve got to have your shit together.

Nobody wants to work with someone who doesn’t know their writer splits, who can’t tell if their beat has a sample, or if the producer on the track has a major publishing deal that requires clearance before signing.

But let’s be real. There’s a million people out here selling you courses that make it seem like it’s harder than it actually is.

It’s not.

What you really need is better music. You need to find someone who can give you honest feedback—someone who’s been there and knows what works.

You don’t need some pre-recorded course on how to email music supervisors

Instead, go to one of the many incredible Sync conferences out there, walk up to someone, introduce yourself, offer to buy them a beer, ask questions, and listen. That’s where you’ll learn what you need to know. The rest is just execution.

Honestly, you probably already know what to do. You might even know how to do it. The real question is: When?

The truth is, you’re probably thinking you’ll start later. Later turns into tomorrow. Tomorrow turns into next week. Next week turns into never.

And here’s the kicker: Sync isn’t a quick cash grab. It’s not some shortcut to fame and fortune.

People think sync is an easy way to make money, but the truth is, it takes time.

It took us 8 years to get our first big break.

We landed a six-figure international ad campaign with a song we made in Sean’s parents’ house when we were fresh out of high school. Sounds cool, right? But that song didn’t actually get synced until 8 years later.

So ask yourself:

Will you wait 8 years to get your first big break?

Samuel L. Jackson said it best: “If you’re not ready to spend 7 years making a movie that might not come out, don’t start.” Same goes for sync.

So here's my advice: Start Now. Stay in it. Most people won't.

And if you pay attention, do the right things, and keep getting better, eventually, you'll get what you want.

Let’s get it.
